JOB SUMMARY: The IDEXX Business and Legal Affairs (BLA) team members perform a wide range of activities to support the growth and development of IDEXX’s global business. The BLA team works closely together to manage both tactical and strategic legal transactions, projects, and programs. The BLA team develops and maintains a deep understanding of IDEXX’s business operations and strategic initiatives so that they can provide ongoing related legal support. The BLA team creates value by anticipating risks, proactively partnering with key stakeholders and by delivering practical yet innovative solutions. 

The IDEXX Compliance organization sits within the BLA and is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of an effective global compliance program.  Key aspects of the IDEXX Compliance program include:

1. Anti-bribery and corruption compliance;

2. Data privacy and governance; and

3. Trade compliance. 

All members of the team must be proficient in all three areas, and each member is expected to possess or acquire expertise in at least one functional area.

The position of the Compliance Specialist-China will be responsible for managing and conducting day-to-day compliance activities which promote ethical business practices and ensure compliance with company policies, global legal requirements, and requirements specific to the dynamic compliance environment in China.  The qualified candidate must have relevant experience in China, and ideally in the Asia-Pacific region in general.

The position will report directly to the IDEXX Chief Compliance Officer (CCO), residing in the Netherlands. The position will require extensive interaction and collaboration with regional management to support compliant growth in China. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         As part of the global compliance team, works closely together with all members of the team in managing global compliance projects.

·         Develops understanding of Company’s business operations and compliance risks. 

·         Adheres to and models the IDEXX Purpose & Guiding Principles.

·         Assists in creating and updating global and country-specific policies as needed to ensure the organization is addressing identified risk.

·         Supports the team in all areas of the program including training development and implementation, tracking of training initiatives, compliance communications, audit and monitoring activities and general organizational and technical support.

·         Delivers live trainings to IDEXX employees and business partners on topics such as ethical business conduct and anti-bribery and corruption compliance.

Identifies      specific compliance risks for China and works with the CCO and management      to implement efficient and practical risk mitigation solutions.Builds      and maintains strong relationships with lines of business and relevant      functional groups.Is      recognized as an expert in compliance matters impacting China.Focuses      on relationships with IDEXX third parties, with an emphasis on IDEXX      distribution partners.  This focus      will include day-to-day management of the IDEXX anti-bribery and      Corruption third party due diligence program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: 

·         Bachelor’s Degree / local country equivalent

·         Advanced Law degree is required

·         Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgment and strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.

·         Strong organizational and project management skills.

·         Intellectual curiosity and desire to learn new skills and subject matters.

·         High ethical standards.

·         Language: Mandarin fluency required; excellent English skills required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

·         Travel throughout China required.  Some international travel may be requested.

EXPERIENCE AND EXPECTATIONS:

·         3-5 years of professional experience in a compliance role for a US publically traded company with substantial international operations and presence in China.

·         Knowledge of international and China-specific anti-bribery and corruption laws (for example, the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA)).

·         Experience in live training, policy development, and auditing/monitoring.

·         Ability to identify risk in complex setting and recommend practical approaches to risk mitigation.

·         Experience in an industry with a distribution partner business model a plus.
